Infrastructure quantity surveying requires accurate interpretation of drawings, identification of measurement limits and careful calculation of quantities. One practical exercise in an infrastructure quantity surveying course is the measurement of structural excavation using actual project drawings, AutoCAD and an Excel quantity sheet.

Structural Excavation Quantity Item

A structural excavation item may describe excavation from the existing ground level down to the required excavation level. The item should be reviewed carefully to establish the extent of work included before the quantity take-off is completed.

Using AutoCAD and Excel for Quantity Take-Off

AutoCAD can be used to review structural drawings and obtain the dimensions required for the take-off. The measured information can then be transferred to an Excel quantity sheet for calculation, checking and presentation.
